The ILS Media Library

The well-equipped ILS Media Library offers learning services, books and resources that enable all members of the Immanuel Lutheran School community to become critical thinkers and effective users of information in all formats and media.

The Media Library staff supports the use of books and other information sources ranging from the fictional to the documentary, from print to electronic.  the materials complement and enrich textbooks, teaching materials and methodologies.

Our collection includes hundres of book titles from the national Accelerated Reading software program, which students can use in the Computer Room.  This softare tracks the student's reading progress over the year.

Pre-school children visit us occasionally for story time with no circulation privileges.

Kindergarten and 1st graders also have story time in the library.  We briefly talk about how to respect books and how to identify author/title/illusrator.  Students may check out one book for one week at a time.

2nd and 3rd graders discuss fiction and non-fiction, and its basic categories.  Book reports are completed as a group after story time.  Students may check out two books for one week at a time.

4th - 8th graders are introduced to the complete organization of the library.  Students are expected to learn the Dewey system and how to use the Bristol Public Library online catalog.  Students may check out two books for two weeks at a time (unless research projects require more books).

4th-6th graders review Caldecott award books collectively; 7th graders, the Newberry award books.  8th grade topics include book censorship and evaluation of legitimate websites.

We frequently use games to spice of the task of learning how to research!  The ILS library will display certain themes that follow holidays or coincide with projects in the classrooms.

The Student Volunteer Program is open to two 7th or 8th grade students per semester.  Students will learn the inner workings of the ILS Media Library, i.e. how to shelve, shelf read, process books, decorate for themes and how to circulate books.
