The Herbert L. Kern National Jr. Honor Society

The Herbert L. Kern National Jr. Honor Society at Immanuel Lutheran School is part of the national organization of the National Jr. Honor Society.

Named for Herbert L. Kern, a former teacher and principal at Immanuel Lutheran School. The ILS chapter began in 1998 at the time of the 100th anniversary of the school.

The National Jr. Honor Society meets several times each year.  In addition, our chapter conducts several community service projects during the year including such activities as helping at the Zion Lutheran Soup Kitchen, collecting toys for the Connecticut Children's Hospital and decorating for Christmas at the Haven Health Center.

Academically eligible students must be nominated for induction into the National Jr. Honor Society. Once nominated, students complete a service and activities form that is evaluated by a five-person/teacher panel that votes to accept or reject the student into the society.

Learn more about this important academic recognition program by contacting your child's teacher or the school office.
